My name is John Dutton and this will be my twenty-first year teaching. I graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Biology and a minor in Secondary Education. I later added elementary certification, completed a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and received an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. In addition to music, I have taught tenth grade biology, seventh grade science, and first, second, and third grades. This my fifteenth year teaching music at Philadelphia School.
Music classes are designed not only to teach students the music goals and objectives specified by the State of Tennessee, but also to be fun and engaging. Your child will learn basic music concepts and then apply them by singing or playing instruments on a regular basis. Research suggests students who study music perform better on tests. Numerous studies reveal that kids who participate in music programs show improved spatial-temporal skills, enhanced academic performance, and better social skills.
